6 new LRT trains to operate in December (maybe)
TRANSIT takes note of this article, “6 new LRT trains to operate in December” which announces information about the government’s plans to improve service on the Kelana Jaya LRT line. There is also information about the proposals for KTM Komuter service.
TRANSIT Says:
Once again, we at TRANSIT are generally happy to hear about improvements to public transport. And once again, we are tired of hearing announcements and knowing in our hearts that there will inevitably be delay after delay, but no information on why.
Transit planners, Minister’s and many RapidKL staff do not have to take the LRT and the KTM service each and every day. But 300,000 commuters are dependent on the rail network each and every day and they have waited a long time for improvements.
The government and KTM and RapidKL have been caught flatfooted, again and again when it comes to public transport. And what makes it worse is that they still do not understand that things are going horribly wrong.
15 minutes service on the KTM Komuter line is simply not good enough to meet the needs of public transport users. The new LRT trains will make a big difference on the Kelana Jaya line but the public has to know when they will be introduced.
It’s not that people are not working hard – we are sure that people are working hard. The first problem is that they are not working in a way that is coordinated, effective and efficient. The second problem is that the public transport users are a group of stakeholders and they are not at the discussion table.
